Funerals

I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?
— John 11:25-26

Funerals at Saint Christopher’s Cathedral

In the face of death, the Church confidently proclaims that God has created each person for eternal life and that Jesus, the Son of God, by his death and resurrection has broken the chains of sin and death that bound humanity.

Catholic Funerals express the distinct character of Christian death in hope of the Resurrection. They also manifest the meaning of communion with the departed, particularly through prayer for the purification of their souls.

Funerals are held at St Christopher’s Cathedral for deceased members of the Cathedral parish or of other Catholic parishes.

In keeping with the nature of a Catholic Cathedral, such Funerals are carried out according to the approved liturgical books and such things as projector ‘reflection’ displays and secular pop music are not permitted.

To organise a funeral contact the Parish Office. Note: Bookings for funerals will only be made through a funeral director.
